Minnie the Moocher

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy just finished a cover of the classic “Minnie the Moocher” and suddenly I am transported back to the 13 year-old version of myself. That summer I was an usher at an outdoor theatre, Kansas City’s Starlight. Cab Calloway came through town with a musical review and I saw him perform this same song in front of a huge orchestra. I hadn’t been into music before then and it would be another year before John Lennon was shot and I’d discover The Beatles, then Billy Joel, and then the rest of the 80s groups. 20Swing left a huge impression on me and still gets my blood pumping more than any 80s power ballad ever will.
